Therapeutic Riding

The therapeutic riding lesson program is modeled after the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) guidelines for accredited operating centers. Therapeutic riding lessons are planned with the individual’s/parents' educational, physical, social and recreational goals in mind. Participants as young as four years and with a wide array of disabilities are active in our therapeutic riding program. Prospective students are provided with all pertinent information and with the forms required for application. Once all forms are completed and returned to us, a NARHA certified Rein and Shine instructor will contact you to set up a lesson schedule.

During the initial visit, therapeutic goals are established, and from this point forward, progress is documented. Most participants have one 30-60 minute lesson each week for the length of the semester, with the majority continuing their lessons from one semester to the next. A NARHA certified instructor, along with trained volunteers, conducts each lesson. Lesson activities may include developing basic riding skills, exercises, games, ground work, and trail riding. *Scholarship Funds are offered for this program. Please request a Scholarship Form from the office: 843-849-0964.
